Frequency
is an installation showing the intersections among various systems constructing
our experience. Radio transmissions are broadcast to living spider-plants.
These plants are of two generations, the mother and her five clone-babies.
The plants are watered via a motorized passive hydroponics system. The
magnetic current surrounding the motor affects the visual display of
the electromagnetic spectrum on the cathode-ray tube mounted above the
water reservoir. Small ripples disrupt the surface of the water. The
wave form is a vehicle for energy transmission in diverse systems, including
DNA replication, the movement of electrons in an electrical circuit,
wireless transmissions, the magnetic fields surrounding the magnets
in a motor, and the movement on the surface of a body of water. Frequency
explores the functions of the waveform in our experience, and the interconnected
quality that it represents. |
