Parts
from a pre-existing humidifier are connected with two found light
hoods, a peristaltic pump, and numerous specially fabricated components
to create a new humidifier. A 3/4" thick ovaloid plate of cast
clear plastic serves as the main structural component. This plate
is suspended on four stainless steel rods. The transparent blue forms
below this plate house the peristaltic pump and the humidifier components.
The light hoods screwed to the top of the plate hold water and vapor.
Vinyl tubing is set up in such a way that the peristaltic pump draws
water from the left hood and forces it over to the right one. |

The humidifier components beneath the right hood create cold vapor,
and a fan blows air through the tube connecting the blue form with the
light hood on the right side. This air then forces the cold vapor up
through the arching vinyl tube connecting the tops of the two light
hoods. The vapor is released into the left hood, where some of it condenses
and rejoins the water that will eventually be moved back to the right
hood. The rest is released out a series of little holes drilled in the
hood, effectively increasing the level of humidity in the room. |
