This composition shows the end result of a process involving an electrochemical reaction taking place on the surface of the piece. The nine carbon poles arranged in a grid formation served as the anodes for the reaction, and the steel surface as the cathode. Ring-shaped neoderm magnets encircle each pole behind the layer of steel. This piece is part of a series exploring the physical manifestations of various materials undergoing this type of reaction and the interaction of deterministic and stochastic effects; the combination of effects I can directly control and those which occur by chance. |
