This composition shows the end result of a process involving an electrochemical reaction taking place on the surface of the piece. The twenty-five poles arranged in a grid formation served as the anodes for the reaction, and the steel and copper surfaces as the cathodes. The poles are silver, copper and carbon. In this piece, the connections between the poles were made visible on the front. These were embedded in the back surface in previous pieces. This piece is part of a series exploring the physical manifestations of various materials undergoing this type of reaction and the interaction of deterministic and stochastic effects; the combination of effects I can directly control and those which occur by chance. |
