2/9, front view smoked oak, salt(water), copper-carbonate, epoxy resin 32 x 32 x 5cm |
This composition shows the end result of a process taking place on the surface of the piece. A supersaturated saltwater was poured directly on the smoked oak. The water evaporated over the period of several days, leaving a formation of salt crystals. This piece is part of a series exploring the physical manifestations of various materials undergoing these types of reactions and the interaction of deterministic and stochastic effects; the combination of effects I can directly control and those which occur by chance. |
