This composition shows the end result of a process involving an electrochemical reaction taking place on the surface of the piece. The carbon rod in the middle served as the anode for the reaction, and the copper surface as the cathode. Small quantities of salt were added around the outer perimeter at irregular intervals during the duration of the reaction. This piece is part of a series exploring the physical manifestations of various materials undergoing these types of reactions and the interaction of deterministic and stochastic effects; the combination of effects I can directly control and those which occur by chance. |
